St John’s Rye - Update!

Rye almost at 2m height 6June 2026

Now 2 metres high as of June 2026!

At beginning Autumn last year, we planted a trial patch of semi perennial rye grain without fertiliser. Unlike many grains, it has an exceptionally deep rootstock bringing benefits of drought resistance, water retention and improvements to soil structure. We plan to save the seeds and plant a larger area if it is successful.

Our semi-perennial St John’s rye crop is now germinated and growing well. Feb 2026
